Hi,
I am a new Linux fan (compared to all of you veterans). I was able to
install RedHat linux without any problem. However, I could not configure X
because my video card is not supported. Whenever I try to start X, I get a
screen with vertical Black & White lines, then the screen turns blue. I can
come out only with Ctrl - Alt - Backspace & them I get lot of confusing
messages. The mouse however works. I have tried out all the permutation
combinations using Xconfigurator / xconf. I have gone thru the FAQs &
HOWTOs but was not successful.
My Video card is built in on the mother board (Jetway 520 BF) and the
manual says it is SiS 3D PRO AGP (or SiS 5595 as per the marking on the
chip).
I think this card was not supported in the Linux I installed. Yesterday on
the RedHat site, I could find that this card is now listed/supported. Now I
want to upgrade just the relevant rpms and dont want to download the entire
XFree86 package. I dont have Internet access at home and will need to
download the files on Floppies and copy them to my home PC.
Can somebody tell me :
- What are the relevant files I need to download ??
- How to download them using Internet Explorer (I mean since these files
are Linux, can I store them directly on a DOS formatted floppy and copy
it to Linux?? ) ??
- What are the steps required to upgrade my Linux to get X up & running
??
Thanks,
Anuj
