So, how many of you know how dhcp came in to being?  Post your answers
here, this can be an interesting discussion.

For the uninitiated, dhcp - dynamic host configuration protocol - is what
assigns IP addresses to machines when they come up on a network.  It is
needed because the number of available IPs is limited and far less than
the number of machines in existence.

Let's start.  I'll post more info during the discussion.
