 Yeh FTP aint that good for this kinda stuff. 

SAMBA was made to enable transparent file & printer
sharing across a n/w. SMB protocol in windows & Linux
enables SAMBA to go about sharing file & printers.
        ....
/etc/smb.conf for config details
