hello,
I'm re-joining this list after a gap...
motivation is the now well-known (?) article in BT.
I think the following points should be included for the 'draft' to be sent
to BT..
(start of draft)
First of all...Linux Tech. cannot claim Aryabhatt Linux to be an 'OS'
created by them..becoz it uses the Linux kernel, so technically it can only
be a 'distro'.
Second, How can BT, which has itself printed articles on the development of
Linux call this an "Indian" OS???
Third, support for SIS cards has been incorporated in Suse for quite some
time..so whats new about Aryabhatt?
Next, all the features mentioned are inherent in any of the present
distros..again..whats new?
Third, the penguin is affectionately referred to as 'tux' in the linux
community..(i think there was talk of trademarking it) ....pray tell me
when/how it got renamed?
The whole article smacks of an attempt to misuse the ignorance about Linux
for personal interest.
While no one can deny Linux Tech the right to issue any press release, the
least BT could have done is read their own archives....
(end of suggestion for draft)
I agree with satya when he says that this could harm the reputation of
linux..point is..what do we do about it..and how? any suggestions?
I dont know if Linux Tech will agree to 'demonstrating' their 'OS' to the
LUG...They have only to lose from the exercise. secondly, are we suggesting
that the LUG become a 'reviewing and certifying' body?
regards,
kishor
