mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy (or whatever mount point)
To simplify this stuff, edit your /etc/fstab file and change the filesystem for
/dev/fd0 to auto. (Of course your kernel must have support compiled in for
vfat, cat /proc/filesystems to find out). You will probably have this available
if you are using one of the newer kernels.

A cdrom also has its own specific filesystem, which is supported by the kernel.
Cd fileststems, AFAIK are iso9660, Joliet (from MS), rockridge (extended
iso9660 for long filename support).
