Regarding reluctance to contribute I could not
find a single logical reason for it. In fact all
the reasons trotted out reinforce the case for a
contribution. While on the subject, Mr. Prakash's
offer was magnanimous but ILUG should be an
organisation of equals - equal contributions,
equal rights and equal responsibilities.
Putting ones money where ones mouth is brings a
sudden focus to things we say and presume (is
free). Mr. Nagrjun's contrib in keeping things
going shows his immense commitment and goodness
as opposed to those who dont want to contribute.
I read Dr. Nagarjun's post on the subject, In
fact we would not be arguing endlesly on this but
for his commitment. Nontheless I standby my
statements.

I agree that the seminar venue is great (been
there on other occasions) but it is defenitly far
away. The locations suggested by me are very very
accessible. I am sure a shift would be required
in the near future. However this should not be an
adhoc decision and the new site should be
permanent.

Regestration of ILUG would be meaningless without
regular fees cause audit fees, regestration fees,
printing of articles of association, AGM and
notices etc. costs money. The costs would be
roughly Rs.5000-7000 and would require the
services of a lawyer.

Would make sense when ILUG meets have 100 up
participants.
>
> 8. We need to spice up our website:
The website should atleast have a weekly update.
Freshmeat.net and Linuxtoday.com offer tremendous
information. I log on to these almost daily and
would love to post some stuff from there. Will
discuss details at meet. Also reading the
politics on Linuxtoday will make others realise
the neccessity of a propah bank account and
balance.

Finally the idea of registration and
contributions are linked to making members draw a
broad agenda for ILUG. What is ILUG, What should
be it's core activities, How does it regulate
itself, How does it respond to vested commercial
interests? (read Philps post on hackers).
I know I sound like one of em MBA's fresh from
college (well I am not;-)) but these things have
to be in place if the organisation has to grow.
The OS community would need a forum for airing
their views and ideas, and bringing the benefits
of OS to society at large. In the process they
will be stepping on a lot of fingers which are
hanging on window sills in the near future.

Voluntary contributions are fine for small
irregular expenses. It would also limit ILUG to
small irregular and illfocused activities.
