I believe the problem with rp3 dialer is that it uses
wvdial to dial your ISP and wvdial needs a parameter
called 'NewPPP' or something if your pppd is of newer
version. Concerned person may see the man page of
wvdial which mentions this. Adding this option to
[Dialer Defaults] section of wvdial.conf in /etc
solves the problem.
