The problem is not restricted to India. BBC & CNN
amongst numerous others are also guilty. A
reading of foreign news papers of repute throw up
the same. Roughly 70 % of the time the reference
to hackers is derogatory and the balance 30% is
confused and ambiguos.
Keeping in mind the above and given the fact that
the media is very reluctant to syntax change, it
may be a better idea to change ones label to
something more mundane like "IT professional" or
"Linpro" or some such. Also given the hidden
hostility of most commercial software outfits to
OS (correct me somone) it may even be a
deliberate ploy by those informed to spread this
type of misinformation.
