Hiyall,
Sorry for the delay in posting the minutes. Here's what happened last
sunday 14/5/2000 at HBCSE.
The meet started with a talk by Prakash Advani. The talk was primarily
about the activities of freeos (www.freeos.com) and supporting Indian
languages on Linux. He spoke about the hurdles they are facing and could
possibly face, and the also the possible workarounds. It was quite
interesting and inspiring. For details, contact Prakash directly. Or
Prakash, could you post a detailed write-up to the ML ??
Then came up the issue of registering ILUG-Bom as a society, and
membership fees. This took up a lot of time, and at one point it was
wisely decided to take a tea/biscuits break. After we reassembled, the
discussion reached new levels of cacophony. The random thoughts,
opinions and suggestions which floated aimlessly in space added to the
confusion and fracas. Sandesh then brought some peace to the ruckus by
suggesting, at first, a dual membership (i.e ML, LUG meets etc free, and
contributors will have access to cd's books, seminars at a discount
etc), and then no membership. I, personally, am still left clueless as
to the outcome of the discussion ;) Somebody enlighten !!!
There was then a question and answer session, by which time most people
had fragmented into groups to discuss everything from evening beer, to
kernel hacking, and slowly people started to bid adios, pas a bientot
;-)
A few points I noted:
1. The turnout was almost 30. I dont have the exact figures though.
2. There were a lot of new faces, and they actively participated.
3. There was no proper agenda, hence a minor (??) confusion. Next time
onwards, we need to keep a slot aside for people to show off the cool
stuff that they've done, and spend more time on Q/A session.
All in all it was fun.
Of course, the most fun part was the little session we had (me, prakash
shetty, parag and anand) involving lotsa aimless discussions over rum
;-)
Cheerio,
Sagar.
P.S: If I missed out something, please feel free to add.
