Because in all my Windows experience, I have never seen such a thing.

But if you have an image file on disk, does win search through all your
files looking for potential image files? Or do you have to tell it ke

A concept that I, and many Linuxers (not linuxlings, dammit!), are quite
familiar with. initrd.tgz, anyone?

We are not speaking of ramdrives, but a related thingie. A ramdrive is a
disk emulated in RAM. An image file is a disk image, which occupies a file
on disk.
