returned with a couple of drinks at a good bar or something similar.

Please remember that 1 Skype account can be linked with a single paypal account.
So you need someone who isnt planning to use skypeOut in the future. 

Someone mentioned "boxes". You can subscribe to any of the voIP services such as
Lingo or Vonage. Requires a monthly commitment ($14 onwards) but it's 
excellent. 
If your use justifies it, that is the way to go. Do not even need a computer
after the initial settings.
