The new connections of triband use the hweweui (whatever) modem if 
provided by mtnl, that has dhcp disabled so in any system you have to 
set the static ip and its related entries like gateway and dns. 

Can you give some details of the modem you got and if you use static or 
dynamic address. If you did not have to do anything in linux, the same 
would be true for windows too.
