I have a (Dlink) DFM - 560IS +++ internal modem. I wanted a driver for Linux kernel 2.6 for it. When i bought the modem, a year back,i got a driver for the 2.4 kernel with the modem. So i am forced to use the older version of the kernel to connect to the internet using the entire bandwidth.
Has anyone bought a Dlink internal Modem (connexant chipset) recently,... ? Maybe you have the driver for the 2.6 kernel. linuxant.com does provide drivers for 2.6 but one can connect only at speeds of 14.4Kbps using it. The full version is something around 20$ .. I called up Dlink (knowing i won't get anywhere) today.The guy at the call center after making me wait for atleast 10-15 minutes, gave me the linuxant url... :-) with a disclaimer that it wasn't supported by Dlink..!! He kept saying that Dlink doesn't support Linux et all.I asked him why Dlink didn't tell the modem vendor to explain that to me when i was buying the modem. I expected a reply like "Microsoft Windows is more popular ... blah blah" but what i got was this -- "You need OpenSource drivers for Linux and 'it' keeps changing, so it is difficult to support Linux ".. I tried to reason out with him politely, but he kept giving me the same answer like a tape recorder..!!
