http_proxy, ftp_proxy variables in /etc/profile as:
export http_proxy="http://mmh3:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:3128"
export https_proxy="http://mmh3:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:3128"

I am no expert, but should not there be a "/" after the proxy port? We
also use squid proxy, and have been told that the "/" is essential.

Well it seems you are an expert after all. Adding the "/" and
tinckering with the timeout value in yum.conf has got YUM working for
me.

Cheers,
Debarshi
