Don't be surprised. This is not an isolated case. I have made some observations myself. There is a distinct pattern. For example do the following things to become a FOSS celebrity in India --- 1. Flame / make fun of rms 2. Worship / follow / appreciate ESR 3. Claim that it's either just Linux or Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP/Python/X.Org/.../<random app> 4. Preach how the GNU GPL is a waste of time and how BSD [read Public Domain] is a much better `license' [sic] 5. Use Mac OS X + Apple apps and claim that you are using OpenDarwin 6. Constantly whine about how <any Free Software project> lacks <some feature> compared to <some non-free app> 7. Publicly deny any allegiance to the FSF/GNU/Free Software but at the same time project yourself as a FOSS advocate in `elite' circles 8. Make fun of other Indian FOSS people by calling them sexists, morons, hypocrites, lame, etc. and explain how <random country> has more FOSS developers 9. Release the sources of numerous but utterly useless projects (resume, website, two line code to rename files, etc.) and brag about how you are really `contributing' to the `Open Source movement' [sic] 10. Constantly look for opportunities where you can spread FUD and more flaming (on lists, blogs, etc.) 11. Keep on repeating steps 1--10 for some years 12. Become a FOSS celebrity 13. Profit 14. Repeat steps 1--13 Flames are welcome.
