Hello All,
The new Triband adsl modems provided by MTNL have separate ip addresses
for the ethernet and usb interfaces unlike the D-link one which has
192.168.1.1 alloted to both. The MTNL ones have 192.168.1.1 for eth and
192.168.1.2 for the usb one.
Therefore if you are setting up the pc's ethernet card then the earlier
192.168.1.2 will not work and yesterday I found it out the hard way. I
was unable to even ping the modem. Only when a live cd was put in, it
was found to take the ip of 3 instead of 2. After the system's ip was
changed to 3, all went fine. So as a safe side, use 3 or above as the ip
address for your pc's ethernet card for any adsl modem.
Regards,
Rony.
