I think we all need to ask ourselves that while we have expectations
from this list, what can we do for it. Some time back there was a
discussion on why there is lack of Indian contribution to development of
FOSS. Lets put on our thinking caps to find out what we GLUG-BOM can do
for Linux. We also need to find centralised locations nearer to railway
stations or major junctions so that members from all over Mumbai can
attend regular LUG meets.
May I propose a simple assignment for this list? Some time back when I
was with Krish, I mentioned to him the need for a linux brochure as,
other than live CDs, there is nothing in text to distribute to people
from the windows background. Many people may not want to use the CDs or
may not know what work to do with them. So can we as a list create a
brochure for Linux. We need to start with an overall picture and then a
basic partitioning information to show them the difference between the
windows and linux partitions and the file system hierarchy like 'C:\'
and '/'. Provide a lot of links too. There may be brochures available on
the net but lets do it our way.
We could create the brochure on the net as a wiki or some online room
where the project grows and leave the printing to the downloader.
Regards,
Rony.
