When I boot the lappy to windows, all is fine. I thought something would be wrong with the init scripts. So I booted into rescue mode, enabled networking, assigned the same ip address and tried to ping other hosts. No luck. Sheesh this is ridiculous. Syslog too refuses to help. Looks like I have no option left but to reinstall. I opted for RHEL AS update 4 because it supports my SATA disk. I could downgrade to update 2 with native SATA support on my lappy turned off.
