I finally tried Dapper Drake (Kubuntu 6.06) and it

I wonder, if Ubuntu has the same base as Kubuntu, why

I have a similar problem with FC6 and a Netgear DG632 router. IP address
gets assigned dynamically, but firefox and yum (and perhaps other programs)
cannot connect to the internet. However, Konqueror has no problem, just
like your experience. Firefox *can* browse by IP address, ping works from
the console, traceroute does, but haltingly so. Some say it may have to do
with DNS caching, but I am yet to verify that.

Surprisingly, a default live run from a knoppix dvd saw firefox working
faultlessly. Therefore, it may mean that there are some implementation
differences that konqueror seems to overstep.

Any expert opinions?
