Why are we still concerned about cybercafes? They are
meant for people who cannot or do not wish to own
their own computers.

But the leaders of this state (especially the ones who
live in Kalanagar) have decided that the free flow of
information is not good for the ordinary people of
this state. Their goons are vandalising cybercafes,
and the police have sent out notices (not in Mumbai,
but in Ulhasnagar and Dombivli, and in other towns in
the state) asking cybercafes not to "show users the
Orkut site".

Needless to say, the press has been largely silent
about this state of affairs. I also see little
discussion of it in lists relating to IT in India.

Evidently, the best way to live here is to wait until
the leaders dole out largesse (free electricity and
water) in return only for a simple vote. Oh yes, and
perhaps a heavy stick to bash up anyone who thinks.
