we made a beginning here. basic install of a server and 30 desktops.
No internet connection or dvd drive, so only a basic installation was
possible. But we got the ball rolling. On behalf of NRC-FOSS i thank
all the LUG members who turned up to help out.
The node is situated in the Mechanical Engineering department of
VJTI. We hope to keep it open from 8 am to 9 pm on all days - but we
need help for this. Mehul will be running the node as a field
representative of NRC-FOSS, and will try to make it a state-of-art
demo of the power of FOSS. This will take time and a lot of help from
the community. People, please support him, on the list and on chat,
and, more important, by dropping in and helping out personally. We
have promised him that we wont flame him on the list regardless of
what questions he asks ;-)
The facillities in the node are available free of cost for anyone who
wants to develop software - if you have a good proposal, we will even
pay you to sit there and develop software.
We need to showcase foss - so experts in various fields are requested
to drop in and help out making it a kick-ass demo.
We had to make all machines dual-boot (except the server) as the
management was not yet confident enough about the power of foss. We
need to change this perception. Am tired - rest later
