Mac OS X comes with a lot of drivers and is a bit more looser with
respect to choosing an appropriate driver for a device. It approximates,
Windows doesn't, which makes it seem that more devices work on Mac OS X.
Truth is that Windows (XP not Vista!) have around the same number of USB
drivers but refuses to use a driver that doesn't *exactly* match the
device it was meant for. Try running the "custom driver wizard" and
choose a generic USB driver or an approximate, you'll be surprised with
the results.

AFAIK, there are not standards for self-loading USB drivers as of yet.
