I just got laptop. Its a dell Vostro 1400. It had options of Dell 1390 wifi card or Intel 3945. I took Intel card as I had heard about problems with dell wifi card . Also it has Nvidia 8400 graphics card. I installed fedora 7 on it. The graphical install did not work, nor did the installer recognise my dvd drive. So I performed a text based install from USB HDD which had images for Fedora 7 DVD. After installing , it booted to runlevel 3 . where I set xorg driver to vesa and got GUI. Then I installed nvidia drivers from livna.org . All worked fine except the dvd drive and intel wifi card. So I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.22_41 and dvd drive is now working. I have also got wireless working with dkms-ipw3945 drivers from Freshrpms.
