If you are not planning to change the firmware, any router would do as 
GNU/Linux compatibility is not an issue. The Linksys one with 2 ext. 
antennas is very good for range but unfortunately now through the 
distributor channels, we get only the new model with internal antenna. 
Try looking for this model ( Ext. Ant.) at Croma or other big malls. 
Price should be within 3K.

For best range, you will have to place it in the center of your usage 
area so plan accordingly.
