Yes, you can have workarounds to the problems faced, but needs some thinking on your part and some training for the other users. Well, this is a rare event, when you face power cuts etc. Solutions include mounting /usr, /boot etc. read-only, and mounting /home, /var etc. in synchronous mode. > 6.
