Here is a list of some commonly used Windows App and it's open source substitute(s)

Windows App OS App
----------- ------
Microsoft Office Open Office.org 1.0*
Outlook, OE. Evolution, Kmail.
Winamp Xmms.
Windows Media Player mplayer, xine, ogle.
Internet Explorer Mozilla*, Phoenix, Netscape*.
Adobe Photoshop Gimp.*
mIRC X-Chat*, BitchX*,
irssi.
IM programs (yahoo, msn, etc) Gaim*, Everybudyy.
IIS Webserver Apache Web Server*.
IIS, Serv-U FTP servers NcFTPd, ProFTPd ftp servers
FlashFXP, ws-ftp, cute ftp ncftp, gftp, mc
Securecrt, Sera-Term Pro. Openssh and any shell, putty*.
Acrobat Reader for pdf files gv.

* - These applications are available as win32 binaries also, so that people
can test them out on Windows before migrating to an Open Source OS like
GNU/Linux.
The above is, by no means, a comprehensive list. It's simply a list that,
imo, lists most of the commonly used Windows Applications and their
Opensource substitutes.
The information regarding each of those Applications can be found via a site
like freshmeat of sourceforge, and therefore, I am not posting it to the LUG
to waste people's bandwidth.
        Hope this helps,
