If your computer cannot handle the graphics try a lower resolution
16 bits per pixel.
I had the same problem with Unreal tournament on win 98, p3 500, 128 MB
Ram,sis 6326. After changing form 24 to 16 bits per pixel it works perfectly
with no (perceptible) loss of quality
