Apparently, the i845 chipset is not supported for versions of X below 4.3, and you need to be running a 2.4.2x kernel, according to this site. http://www.tcs.tifr.res.in/~vishwas/misc/x-conf.html This site might have some help somewhere, I didn't check. http://debianhelp.org/ Also check out driver support on http://xfree86.org/current/RELNOTES3.html#14 BTW, I run Debian unstable on i845 with an NVidia Riva TNT2 display card. Interestingly, this is the only card that allows mplayer to play movies in the console without X or the frame-buffer! The option to use is "-vo cvidix" ... The newer "nv" driver in X is far more improved now, so that you can use it at high resolutions with 24 bit colors. I currently use a driver provided by NVidia, but saw nv working on a recently installed machine. Havn't tried playing a movie on it yet.
