GNU/Linux would have existed even without M$. It is stupid to say that Linux has progressed so far because of M$ unless M$ was funding Linux development discreetly :). Linux is popular because it gets the job done (for techies atleast). No clippy helpers and fancy "features". Also Pro-OSS is not necessarily Anti-M$. FSF is around for almost 20 years now.
