I must add rony that i found Xandros pretty neat and I had earlier installed it
on a different laptop. detection was not an issue. about the modem, it is not
supposed to detect winmodems anyways, but had no problems in detecting external
ones.
Which was the version you tried? My experience with Xandros 1 was
excellent and it worked even on a winmodem. The Xandros 3 that I tried
was the single cd iso that came in this month's (June) chip magazine dvd.
I use an external modem too and it could not detect it properly, even
the com port was selected as com 8. I tried different driver and port
combinations but the ppp was not able to start the modem. The xine
player did not play and video cds and it got stuck so badly that even
after giving the kill signal from ps list, it did not clear from the
screen. It did not detect my sound device either. After my good
experience with Xandros 1, this was disappointing.
One question to you and all linux laptop users. What type of modem is
used in laptops? Is it not an internal modem and how does linux work
properly on it? ;)
Regards,
Rony.
