I would suggest you go for an AMD 64-bit processor. Its too good, very fast!

And an ASUS AI-series motherboard would be a perfect combo.

I have an AMD-64 ATHLON 2800+ processor with an ASUS K8N mobo. Both together 
make a wonderful system.
