Uh, no. XP showing a desktop to actually becoming usable can take quite
some time. When a Linux desktop shows up, it is usable at that point.

Your suggestion about DHCP is a good one though. You can see a
significant difference with 128 MB of RAM. Personally, I would recommend
a minimum of 256 and preferably 512 MB of RAM. Maxing out the RAM on a
PC is also a good idea.
