My first Linux tutor, friend, philosopher and guide was the 'Linux Bible
RedHat 8'. It was a fat book with free CDs included and it gave step by
step instructions on how to partition my hard disk and add the 2
required Linux partitions Ext3 with mount point and Swap. The latter
part is a normal GUI installation as you would do in Windows. Currently
you should get the Fedora Core 4 book as Red Hat 8 is an old version.
Once your Linux OS is up, you can use it just like windows.
Linux is a very flexible and open source system so you may face
difficulties in getting everything working in one distro as you do in
windows which is closed source and meant to be an all-in-one operating
system. Linux comes in many distros, each having its own speciality.
Multimedia is an area that will seek your patience in using
Linux. Otherwise Linux is best suited for Office Suite, Internet and
E-mail.
