Besides that, CVS is extremely well documented, and doesn't have any gotchas; especially if you want to download sources from a repository. However, if you want to get started in version control for maintaining your own projects, I'd suggest you use SVN. It makes shooting yourself in the foot that much more difficult. AFA CVS goes, you should be able to "Google" yourself to fairly good documentation.
