That was exactly the problem. :) The triband works in windows so I was
hesitant to do any change in the modem settings. I just read all your
replies in windows and proceeded to restart into linux to try the
solutions and it simply started working. I think the problem was that I
was working in gui but only doing a 'service network restsrt' without
logging out after any change in settings. Right now I am using a static
IP with DNS servers loaded in /etc/resolv.conf
This is the result of my speed check in linux. It is not going upto 256
kbps but thats ok.
Internet connection speed results:
