Hai , I have been using ubuntu 8.04 , knoppix , BOSS Linux and Puppy Linux for quite some time. I have tried Puppy Linux on a P1 / 266 MHz / 64 MB memory machine with good results. In my opinion , Puppy Linux is the fastest OS distribution capable of working with minimum resources. Bye and Good Luck. NB Iyer.
