Googling for "install startup service linux" (without the quotes) and
"linux daemon howto" without quotes gave me this:

To write a daemon (you have probably done this already if you have
written a server):

http://www.netzmafia.de/skripten/unix/linux-daemon-howto.html

To install it as a service:

http://bitnami.org/article/how-to-install-services-on-linux

For example scripts you can open any existing ones to see how they
work. They are all in /etc/init.d in most common distros.
