redhat 4 to 6 had an excellent gui tool for all this. It got broken in later 
versions. In fact I may not have been able to shift to linux in those days if 
the gui had not been there. And after RH 9 broke everything, Mandrake had 
these tools. Back then mandrake even had a gui for shrinking windows 
partitions and making customised partitions during the install - which was 
again full fledged gui.
