Lenovo thinkpad (and *not* idea pad) still comes with with free dos. I use a thinkpad and off late more 5 of my colligues and friends purchased thinkpad/. Search for r61 or if you can get r60. There are a few hp compacq laptops which work very well with linux as well. Contact me off list and I will try and give you contacts of some shops which will give you the proper laptop for linux.
