Is the real situation an ill defined problem and half baked solution?. I think so. Double guessing what the op wants due to paucity of info is a wild shot at best. Why dont you describe whatever it is you are actually trying to achieve? Are you trying to automate a failover mechanism of a critical resource, like a mail /proxy server, or merely trying to backup a hard disk. Either way cloning a disk is a daft method. Cloning is used primarily for installing junk oses on multiple machines.
