There are many laptops which have no open ends to fix. Again. My personal experience with linovo thinkpads and as some member mentioned about idea pad s10E and the one laptop mentioned by Mehul are best examples. Infact I say it is always better to go for Linux specially on these machines. I remember one insidance where I had to purchase a laptop for my friend and he kept on persisting onkeeping the thinkpad as dual boot. It took 2 + hard hours for getting the windows OS up, installing all the drivers properly and bla bla bla. But Ubuntu just went painless. That friend of mine soon shifted to Ubuntu any ways. So some laptops really rock with gnu/linux. The other alternatively which you can use at many places is to carry a live cd and run it on the laptop. This will be specially possible if you go to a showroom and get a chance to try your hands on the one you liked. Actually this is how I discovered the problem of Sony VIO and some toshiba laptops.
