Yes. efax -d /dev/ttyXY -w -iS0=4 S0=4 means autoanswer on 4th ring. Your efax-gtkrc with S0=3 should have worked. It is also possible that the modem is not recognising your incoming ring, in which case you have to set several params in the modem for ring frequency and cadence.
