Many do. I have installed Debian and Ubuntu on some Macbooks, one of
them a old Mac book Pro and another being a recent mini.
And I did a dual boot installation on them. So Os X was still there when
you want to use it.

Its your device, do whatever you want to do with it.
3. If another OS is run on Apple hardware, does it void warranties?
This could be possible I have not looked into the warranties side of things.
Please avoid sending in responses stating that Apple Mac OS X is
better than GNU/Linux in some way. That might be true, but personally,
I would prefer GNU/Linux.
