hi

.dat is purely MS Win***s based file format and not
supported on gnu/linux..

best thing is convert .dat to mpg/mpeg  and then use
"Mplayer" or "XINE"  OR "Kaffenine" video players to
play these mpg files...

by default Redhat/Fedora series don't come loaded with
these video players.they have to be installed using
rpm package or compile the source code..
