For reading, try IEEE 1588, IEEE 802.1AS-2011, the ptp4l and phc2sys
man pages, the linuxptp-users and linuxptp-devel archives on gmane.

For the conf files, you can start with default.cfg as it contains the
most common default settings.  Only change an option when you are sure
that you need that special setting (check the ptp4l man page).
