A better plan would be to start with ptpd since it is already cross platform. https://github.com/ptpd/ptpd The supported platforms are all posix-style systems, so it is not clear at first glance how much effort it would require to port to FreeRTOS. Personally I would start with a more full featured RTOS which has a posix API available already.
