what do you mean by updates?  are you using stable or unstable?

I'd reccomend NOT doing updates once you have things working until you
NEED to.

i dont use wpa so I can't help you but I do have problems with waproamd
and the wireless card in general on my R3120.  On some kernels it will
come up on boot and others it wont.  But it always works manually.
