So it's time to summarize all this years with our laptops.
Personally I won't ever buy another HP laptop :)
And I will :)
I have to say, that I'm content with it... Lemme sumarize:
Pros:
- Great screen - I mean really, I bought some laptops for my friends since I
got mine and frankly, this screen is the best of them. But just to be sure:
the other laptops where: some acers (horrible screens), asus, and toshiba
satellite. I presume that IBMs and Apples have better screens, but that You
will have to tell me...
I bought mine with the uber 1920x1280 screen. Blows everything else out
of the water. Then again, I have a good optician.
- tough - I use normal 30l backpack (without any 'laptop compartment' or
something) often packed to the max with other stuff (trip to home) and I
never had any problems (I thought I will...)
I have had only one problem there. The PCMCIA ejector tab tends to stick
out. I ripped it out of the machine once. Thankfully I have the three
year warrenty.
- good HDD :) - really, I have another one in external case and it broke some
time ago. And my hitachi in HP is still 100% healthy according to SMART.
I replaced my hard drive a while ago. (I wanted 7200rpm.) I use the old
drive as a replacement whenever I need to send the system back for repair.
(Only twice so far. Once for something I did and once for the power brick
dying.)
- I have to say - very reliable - nothing broke since I bought it (2.5yrs
now... my god, was it really that long ago?)
Same here. Seems like yesterday.
Cons:
- graphic card, but hey, I knew what I order
I have some problems with the graphics card. It acts like it is half
dedicated ram and half shared. That causes banding when output to the
S-Video port for anything with motion.
- too bulky
Very much a brick.
- too few USB ports... Man... only 3? USB HUB is a must
I tend to use only two at a time. I have a bigger problem with only one
of them being USB 2.0.
- DVD-drive plastic cover is weak - my girlfriend broke it in no time :)
- easy scrachable cover
Never had that happen.
I also had problems with the AMD64 3700+ not supporting certain
virtualization features. (It was added in a later CPU revision.)
So it isn't THAT bad :)
It has been a good laptop for me. I don't know if I would get another.
The weight is a big issue. Depends on what is around. The three year no
questions asked breakage warrenty has been a big plus for me. Definitly
worth the money.
