yes problems like this kann hurt latency alot.
The topic on Linuxsampler bounded by memory speed was

well perhaps the problem is only due to the soundcard and not the memory
speed,
but you can perform some tests.
I will also try different memory allocations for
> Linuxsampler, mainly because i want to use the disk

let's say that as long as you only play the piano and do use other apps
which access the disk at the same time or cause swapping the difference
between 1 disk system and system disk + sample disk should be minimal.
of course if you put in a new 7200-10k rpm disk it will help a lot.
