    Yes you will need libsndfile for building libgig. But your error 
message suggests some more fundamental problem on Mac OS 10.5. These 
build projects were developed under 10.4, and not tested on 10.5. I am 
sorry I cannot go any further now because I do not yet have 10.5 (and no 
spare time either). I am planning to get a new machine this fall, then 
hopefully I can work on 10.5 issues...

    By the way, gigedit requires X11 and gtk. Please make sure you have 
X11 installed (together with X11 development environment), and get 
gtk/X11 from MacPorts.
